During the past five months, I had the privilege of participating in an exchange program at Ningbo University, studying and living in Szczecin, Poland. This experience not only allowed me to immerse myself in European culture but also helped me deeply appreciate the vastness and diversity of the world through cultural exchange. I would like to share my insights and reflections from this journey, including the academic and personal growth I experienced.
In September of last year, I arrived in Szczecin, a city rich in both history and modernity. As an exchange student, I was immediately drawn to the campus environment. In class, I witnessed the enthusiasm and intelligence of students from different countries, engaging in meaningful exchanges of ideas. The Polish educational system emphasizes critical thinking and independent learning. Professors encouraged us to ask questions and think for ourselves, rather than memorizing information, which was an incredibly valuable approach to learning.
While language sometimes posed a challenge, I gradually overcame it through interactions with locals and fellow international students. I made friends from all over the world, and together, we shared academic struggles, explored the city’s beauty, and planned unforgettable trips. One of the most memorable experiences was celebrating Christmas with local friends. We sang carols, enjoyed delicious food, exchanged gifts, and shared warm wishes. This moment reminded me that, despite cultural and linguistic differences, the warmth and care between people transcend borders.
In addition to my studies and life in Szczecin, the greatest takeaway from this experience was the opportunity to travel around Europe. Every new city I visited captivated me with its unique cultural atmosphere. I admired the scenic beauty of Budapest, with the Danube River winding through the city, and felt the weight of history there. In Vienna, I explored magnificent palaces and art exhibits, immersing myself in the world of music and culture. The ancient castles of Prague transported me back to the Middle Ages, while Barcelona’s Gaudí architecture deepened my understanding of art and architecture. In Seville and Lisbon, I experienced the passionate lifestyle of Spain and Portugal. Florence in Italy allowed me to feel the grandeur of the Renaissance, while Rome immersed me in the glory of the Roman Empire. In France, Nice's Mediterranean beaches offered a warm escape, and Paris’s museums and romantic atmosphere left a lasting impression.
These travels broadened my perspective, showing me the diverse beauty of the world. Each city had its own distinct character and history, and I was fortunate to leave my footprints in these places. These experiences made me more open-minded and flexible, and I realized how vast the world is, full of infinite possibilities and stories waiting to be explored.
Through this exchange program, I gained not only academic growth but also valuable life experiences and friendships. The travel and cultural exchanges in Europe deepened my understanding of the uniqueness of different cultures, fostering greater tolerance and appreciation for diversity. Looking back on this experience, I realize that I have become more independent and confident, while also cherishing the friendships and warmth around me. In the future, I will continue to treasure these memories and carry these invaluable lessons with me as I move forward in life. Wherever I go, I will keep an open and positive mindset, ready to explore the world and embrace the growth and transformation each journey brings.
